System
Z Release 5.1 Highlights
___
|
Highlight
|
Description
|
Automated
field validation
|
As
always, Z validates fields based on definition (alpha/numeric)
and dates are checked for validity. The latest version of System
Z provides additional validation by enabling required fields
to be examined for valid entry with errors generated when appropriate.
This automated approach significantly cuts error checking time
for every developer. |
Additional
user-defined data dictionary
|
A
third data dictionary enables developers to group data definitions
more flexibly. This new feature will be particularly useful
for developers involved in converting legacy COBOL applications
to System Z. |
Extended
compiler functionality
|
A
newly integrated environment supports facilities ranging from
editing external files to data dictionary maintenance while
eliminating any requirement to switch among multiple editors.
This approach—already familiar to those working on a Windows
platform—results in significant productivity increases throughout
the development life cycle. |
