Wyndham
Union Station Hotel
Hotel class:
1001 Broadway
Opened in October, 1900 as a passenger train station, Union Station is filled
with memories of a handcuffed Al Capone, 10,000 well-wishers of FDR, 3 Million
WWII Vets passing on tour of duty, and a $6 Million refurbishment in 1998.
Built at the height of Nashville's social and economic growth, this classic
example of Richardsonian Romanesque Architecture is still a landmark in the
heart of the Music City. A foot barrel vaulted ceiling of Tiffany stained glass
glittering gold leaf mirrors and bas-relief sculptures adorn the lobby area,
capturing historical elegance.

Shoneys Inn Nashville Downtown
Hotel class:
1521 Demonbreun Street |
Shoney's Inn, the
closest hotel to Music Row, where movers and shakers make and break music
careers on a daily basis, offers classic southern hospitality with a twang. The
country music fan can spend the day walking the Row, soaking up music history
at the Country Music Hall of Fame, and purchasing mementos at Barbara
Mandrell's huge gift shop--all within walking distance. Located just off the
interstate, this hotel puts you a quick 15 minutes from Opryland and just 5
minutes from The District in downtown.. The inn contains 147 rooms, all with
outside entrances, but virtually no public space except for a small lobby.
Glossies of the great and near greats of country music paper the lobby walls.
If you're staying for a couple of days with a crowd, get a suite to sleep six,
complete with a microwave and refrigerator. An outdoor pool will cool the kids
off in the hot afternoons. They stay free, by the way, as long as they're not old
enough to vote. The closest restaurant, a Shoney's (of course), features
reasonably priced classic American eats like hamburgers and apple pie.—
